This document defines standardized job descriptions for key aircraft maintenance roles to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operations. Duties are aligned with applicable regulations and organizational policies.
Director of Maintenance (DOM)
Summary
Leads the maintenance organization and is accountable for airworthiness, regulatory compliance, reliability, budget, and personnel management across all aircraft and shops.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the maintenance program: policies, procedures, Minimum Equipment List (MEL) usage, maintenance control, and records management.
- Plan, prioritize, and authorize scheduled/unscheduled maintenance; ensure adherence to manuals, service bulletins, and directives.
- Maintain regulatory compliance (e.g., recordkeeping, Return‑to‑Service, tooling/calibration) and liaise with authorities and auditors.
- Manage staffing: recruiting, onboarding, qualification tracking, and recurrent training for technicians and line service staff.
- Establish and monitor KPIs (aircraft availability, deferral rates, turn‑time, repeat discrepancy rates, safety metrics).
- Administer maintenance budgets, vendor contracts, and parts inventory; approve purchases and work orders.
- Chair safety and reliability meetings; lead root‑cause/corrective action for incidents and component failures.
- Approve and sign maintenance releases within authorization limits; delegate in writing as appropriate.
- Coordinate with flight operations, dispatch, and training to minimize downtime and align maintenance with the flying program.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certificate with Inspection Authorization (IA) required. • 5–10+ years of progressively responsible aircraft maintenance experience, including leadership of teams.
- Strong knowledge of maintenance planning, reliability, quality systems, and technical publications.
- Proficiency with maintenance tracking/CMMS, digital records, and inventory systems. • Demonstrated budgeting, vendor management, and project management skills.
Success Measures (KPIs)
- Dispatch/mission completion rate and aircraft availability.
- On‑time maintenance compliance and audit findings closed on schedule. • Repeat discrepancy rate and maintenance‑caused delays.
- Safety performance (events, hazards reported, corrective actions). • Adherence to budget and inventory turns.
Aircraft Mechanic / Technician
Summary
Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on airframes, powerplants, propellers, avionics installations, and related systems. Ensures work is completed to technical data and returned to service properly.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform line and heavy maintenance, including 50/100‑hour and annual inspections, service bulletin/AD compliance, and component replacement.
- Troubleshoot discrepancies using approved data; document corrective actions and parts used with traceability.
- Execute proper torqueing, safetying, rigging, servicing, and functional checks; perform run‑ups and leak checks as authorized.
- Use current technical publications, drawings, and maintenance manuals; maintain personal currency and required training.
- Ensure tool control, FOD prevention, and calibration adherence; maintain a clean, safe work area.
- Open/close work orders accurately and on time; sign Return‑to‑Service within limits of authorization and certificates.
- Support parts research, receiving inspection, and core return; flag rotable/repairable items.
- Participate in safety reporting, root‑cause analysis, and continuous improvement events.
Qualifications & Requirements
- A&P certificate required (or equivalent authorization if applicable). • 1-2+ years of general aviation or relevant aircraft maintenance experience. • Ability to read/interpret maintenance manuals, wiring diagrams, and Illustrated Parts Catalogs (IPC).
- Experience with digital maintenance records and basic CMMS usage preferred.
- Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs, work at heights, and in varying environmental conditions; willingness to work shifts and on‑call.
Success Measures (KPIs)
- Quality of work (rework/return rates) and adherence to technical data. • Compliance with inspection intervals and documentation accuracy. • Productivity and on‑time task closure; safety observations submitted.
Line Service Personnel
Summary
Supports flight operations by providing ground handling services including fueling, towing, marshalling, servicing, and hangar operations while maintaining strict safety and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform aircraft fueling/defueling, oil/oxygen servicing, tire pressure checks, lavatory and potable water service as applicable.
- Tow, park, and marshal aircraft using approved procedures; install chocks, cones, and tie‑downs.
- Conduct pre‑ and post‑service inspections of ramp equipment (tugs, GPUs, ladders) and report discrepancies.
- Maintain ramp/hangar safety: FOD walks, spill response, fire extinguisher checks, and proper PPE usage.
- Complete fueling documentation, fuel quality control checks, and environmental compliance logs.
- Assist maintenance and flight crews with ground support, and escorting vendors. • Communicate status via radios and logbooks; escalate hazards, spills, or near‑misses immediately.
Qualifications & Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; aviation ramp experience preferred. • Valid driver’s license and ability to qualify for airfield/ramp driving privileges. • Training in fueling, towing, hazmat handling, and spill response (company‑provided or prior).
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions; lift/push/pull 50+ lbs; work shifts, nights, weekends.
Success Measures (KPIs)
- Zero fuel contamination or spill events; adherence to QC program. • On‑time turns and accurate service documentation.
- Ramp safety performance (incidents, FOD findings, PPE compliance).
Common Expectations (All Roles)
- Safety first: comply with company Safety Management System (SMS) and immediately report hazards and incidents.
- Strict adherence to approved data, manuals, bulletins, and company procedures; maintain current training/certifications.
- Professional communication, teamwork, and customer focus.
- Availability for overtime/on‑call as operationally required.
Physical & Work Environment
- Standing, bending, climbing ladders/stands; working in/around confined spaces and on wings or tail surfaces.
- Exposure to noise, fumes, solvents, fuels, hydraulic fluids, and varying temperatures; use of PPE required.
